Women’s mental health is all encompassing and takes in to account the biological, psychological, and social aspects that are unique to a women’s health and wellbeing.
WHAT IS REPRODUCTIVE PSYCHIATRY
Reproductive Psychiatry is a subspecialty focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions and the influence of reproductive hormones on them throughout a women’s reproductive life cycle. Psychiatric symptoms may worsen or newly manifest during notable periods of reproductive transitions (example: pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause). Some women experience mood changes with each menstrual cycle or experience premenstrual exacerbation of their psychiatric symptoms.
